If a new religion came along that required everyone to worship a golden hind, that would be a major boost to the price of gold. I see that Sun Myung Moon has performed a marriage ceremony for a Catholic Priest and he selected a Korean Doctor to be the Priest's wife. The Priest averred that excommunication would not be a problem.
