The Starship Enterprise has a lot of great features too, but try and get a ride on it.

Re: "Yes EV68 is late, yes EV7 is late but both products are world-class and
EV7 has features and functionality McKinley will drool over."

Maybe.

But McKinley exists - and will make it to Pilot Production within 6 months.

EV7 will be a late, late curiosity.

Rob, <EV7 has features and functionality McKinley will drool over>

Can you elaborate on those? Also does Compaq/Alpha have silicon yet?
For me the question in the Itanium vs Others (US III, EV7, PA-Risc, Power4) debate is
whether any of the other will continue to have an edge over Itanium successors.
Round 1 has definitely gone to Others. However, I am not sure about
the next few rounds. In spite of everything possible going wrong for Itanium
it is still surprisingly competitive compared to Others which speaks
poorly about them.

Rob, <For instance, how does a 4 processor Itanium compare
against a 4 procssor Foster vis-a-vis tpmC? I am pretty confident the Foster will smoke it>

4-way Foster isn't here yet. Period.

<EV7 has features and functionality McKinley will drool over.>

The story used to be "performance." Now it's "features and functionality"? I'd sure like to hear about one or two of them (at least those which don't directly relate to performance).
