Platform Computing's Distributed Resource Management Software Helps Accelerate the Introduction of Itanium-based Systems into Existing Compute Environments
- LSF Software Available Simultaneously with Commercial Availability of Itanium-based Systems -

TORONTO, May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Platform Computing Inc., a global leader in Distributed Resource Management (DRM) solutions, announced that its LSF (Load Sharing Facility) software is poised to help accelerate the introduction of Itanium-based systems into existing compute environments. Platform's LSF is ready to ship and will support the commercial availability of the 64-bit Intel Itanium processor architecture for systems running either the Linux operating system or Hewlett Packard Inc.'s HP-UX. Platform's LSF will also support other platforms as they become commercially available.

``As early as last October 2000, CERN was able to demonstrate successful utilization of a cluster of Intel® ItaniumT processor-based hardware running SIXTRACK under the control of Platform Computing's LSF,'' said Sverre Jarp, IA-64/TRILLIAN project manager for the IT Division at CERN. SIXTRACK is a multidimensional, multiparticle tracking code employed by high-energy physicists in the analysis of experimental data from particle accelerators.

LSF will play a key role as companies scale their compute operations using the Itanium processor or move from existing operating systems to Linux. LSF is cost-effective, business-critical system software not only for companies planning to use Intel's Itanium architecture, but also for companies that need to maximize their compute power in general.

``The availability of core middleware, such as Platform's LSF, can easily facilitate the introduction of Itanium-based systems into existing production compute environments at customer sites,'' said Paul Hill, Platform Computing's Vice President of Business Development. ``In addition, LSF helps ensure a quick and efficient ramp-up for companies as they move to implement the Itanium architecture without disrupting their day-to-day compute activities.''

Platform's LSF is a set of software products that enable distributed computing by providing end-to-end access to computing resources through load sharing and dynamic job scheduling within heterogeneous computing environments. With LSF, customers realize the benefits of distributed computing through resource management features such as policy-driven scheduling, while monitoring, reporting and accounting for the processing of application workloads.
