First is whether it will actually work in practical terms. Will it exacerbate the SPs' capacity problems?
I'm sure GPRS will work but like I said before, expectations will have to come down. I'm also sure that GPRS will exacerbate capacity problems but only if GPRS becomes popular. If that becomes the case then we will see an acceleration to build 3G which is a good thing for QCOM.

will they be able to offer popular applications at an affordable price?
This is where I think we'll see Sprint and Verizon begin to separate from the GPRS competition. I know many are working on all kinds of music apps. There will also be plenty of apps that will require sending stills and short video clips back and forth, and don't forget about porn. Even if GPRS achieves the data rates required for these apps, I just don't see how they could deliver these apps as cheeply as the 1x guys.
