dug up a like mind <<Tax cut: Nothing but a dream?

By Dr. Irwin Kellner, CBS.MarketWatch.com
Last Update: 3:45 AM ET May 30, 2001 There's less to the $1.35 trillion tax cut than meets the eye -- a lot less.

The most you'll see from it this year is $600. That's the amount the Treasury will send to married couples filing joint returns. And chances are the check won't arrive until the fall.

When combined with the $500 to single parents and $300 to individual taxpayers, these rebates will result in an injection of only $45 billion -- a drop in the ocean of a $10 trillion economy

$52 Billion into a $9+ Trillion economy? Piffle. How much did the Fed dump into the economy the day after the rate cut? (You linked the article on 5-25, now it's archived and I don't feel like buying it). I'm guessing it was exactly 1 (one) butt-load more than $52B, and that was in one day. It's effect on the market was dramatic and lasted 8 calendar days. The tax refunds will in all likelihood go to Visa and AmEx and MC, for things already bought, i.e., already in the economy.
