Yes, if they have a need to know, it makes a difference, and sometimes it is a matter of conversation filler. But what about your family? They don't need to know, but they have a legitimate interest in your well- being. You have reason not to want to worry anyone, and also to avoid interference. Your mom calls, says "How are you and Fatima doing?", and won't be put off by a "some things good, some things bad" answer....then what?
