Yes - it is almost as if the 1x part is less important for China than the whole push for R-UIM cards which was part of the minimum requirements. (But I thought this was important for Korea too and apparently it isn't). In many presentations Q has talked about a high tier and low tier set of chips. One for China and India and maybe WLL in Brazil and others for other markets, or even both for some markets. This is the MSM 3100 vs MSM 3300 split.

That may well have been its original primary intent and one of the reasons it wasn't on any roadmap or subject to any press release till September (fluctuating state of China's on again, off again narrowband CDMA stance between the time design would have had to begun - Lakers point - and a decision was made that it was necessarry for Korea because the MSM5100 was slipping out.
