McGowan: Education vouchers are dead in the water.

Voters in Michigan said no to vouchers 70 percent to 30 percent. Same 70-30 split in California on Nov. 8. For Pete's sake, Jimbo, the anti-voucher vote margin in the Republican-dominated U.S. House last week was 2-1. The only people that support vouchers are religious conservatives and some right-wing extremists like yourself.

Quit your whining. "Cherry-picking" the best from the public schools ain't the answer. Neither is giving tax breaks to religious zealots. Rather, we need a renewed commitment from the federal government, all 50 states, all school districts, the NEA and all parents to create the best schools we possibly can.

That is the American way. Narrowing the gap between church and state is not the American way. If you want to live in a theocracy, move to a suburb of Salt Lake City.
