I see Arafat's where long time friend Husseini just died. Husseini always said he wanted to make Palestine go all the way to the Mediterranean. If that position is not moderated there will be no possibility of the Palestinians getting what they could not otherwise get from any ideal brokered deal in the ME. As I have said before, if they don't see this, then I don't have much hope for them. They are blinded by years of oppression which has fueled unreasonable rage and unrealistic expectations of the outcome of any struggle.

I don't see Arafat as scum. He saw his home land taken over and he reacted. Tell me what you would have done if someone Mexicans came into Houston, took over the town and booted you out, claiming it was the hereditary homeland of Jaun Valdez. Would you call allow them to call Davy Crockett worthless scum? That is the way the Palestinians see him. If you call their leader down you are basically saying they are people who like to shoot off guns and blow people up with hand grenades for a good time. Is it likely that they are this out and out evil? Is anybody? After all they do not have an arms build up like Germany did before the second world war. I will admit that their adventures in Jordan do not inspire trust. But I would not call them hegemonistic in comparison to say the German occupation of European countries.

It's all a matter of perspective. I haven't talked to a single middle easterner moderate or otherwise who has called Arafat names. Funny. A few jews have reviled him. I would expect that.

I refuse to take sides. All politics is basically one group opening their eggs at one end and fighting with those who open them from the other. I don't tell either side that I would open from the middle. I would have two enemies then. I have not yet decided to eat eggs but I send envoys to each country with negotiations on how to start should the need arise.
