I've done extensive rewiring or more of upgrading wiring to the houses I've owned. Adding fuse boxes and multiphase power circuits. I remember discussing this in the eighties and just remembered I concluded I would never use aluminum as the risk reward of the cost saving was foolish.

I did a google on aluminum wiring and the links provided came up on the top of the heap.

Climate is a factor with aluminum wire as well. Here in SE Alaska, the humidity is always high. Bimetalic contacts such as those in your meter box often fail. Happened to me.
