Good ideas and attitude. Everyone SHOULD live like that. Only problem is -- what if the Bible is actually 100% correct in what it says? It says to live like you say -- basically "the Golden Rule" -- Most important is to love God with all your heart and second, is to love others more than yourself. That would pretty much satisfy what you have said. Unfortunately, IF the Bible is 100% right, then there is actually one other stipulation to get eternal life after you die in this one (again, assuming the Bible is 100% correct and there IS an afterlife of either Heaven with God or Hell without God). It says it does not matter how you live if you die without accepting God's only Son as your Savior -- ie. "there is ONLY one way to Heaven". It does say, however, that if you accept Him, then your life will show these other signs of caring for others of which you speak. Don't want to preach on this thread, but surely want everyone to think things out for themselves. I've always held the position that it is better to accept what may be true (and hence, have a chance at eternal life), rather than to be so bitter or think I am the ultimate brain in this Universe as to miss what may be a very (and perhaps the only) chance for something after this life. Let's assume the 100% hypothesis above -- the Bible says many will say, "Lord, Lord, did I not do such and such for others and do this and this in your name", and he will say "depart from me, I never knew you." -- I claim to be no genius, but this certainly sounds like people who lived like you say, but missed that other piece of the puzzle. I know people say a caring God would not do that, but hey, if a superior being was capable of creating the universe, then He must have a good reason for writing the rule book as it was. I am not so stubborn to figure I know why or a better way. I'd rather do what the superior being (my creator if 100% rule is true) says to do without question, whether I understand it or not. I think if it is true, a lot of people who call the Bible fairy tales, and guilt they won't accept, and a crutch for stupid people, and a book for non-thinkers, etc. will be very sad indeed if their pride (I believe that same book says this is what will prevent most from getting into Heaven) stops them from believing.

Just some thoughts from an old man.

I remain,
