vic, imho, the chinese "market" thing is another iteration of the "amzn could take over the world" point of view. yeah, it *could* happen. but the probability is so darn low that it is a joke to bet that way.

same thing with china. sure, 1.3 billion folks (i'm sure 95%+++ in poverty) may all of a sudden live like americans. it *could* happen. but it won't. not anytime soon and not without a serious war.

but, hey, you gotta have *something* to hang your hat on, right? ;-)

whatever. i won't argue with you. you're mind is made up. china is going to be a third world country for the next century. if you say so.

p.s. the article was written two years ago by someone who has visited well more than 100 countries, many more than once and this person has been to every continent, including antartica! i think with all they've seen they would be able to form a rational opinion about the state of affairs in a country. (especially the infrastructure, since this person didn't just fly over there and stay in a hotel, but actually motorcycled thousands of miles across china once and drove thousands of miles across china in a car this time).

>I'm not saying China is not growing, of course it is. But they also fudge their growth figures to make them look better. And if you want a country that is doing well, look at Taiwan.
Vic, facts don't fudge. The Shanghai B index is up 168.2% ytd. Taiwan weighted is up 5.7%.
You can buy or sell these indexes from any broker in the USA.
Anyone thinking China is just some communist country with its people running around dead scared of its government are totally wrong.
Btw
You should go to China and bring back a couple of young girls for me;O)

>> that's bs; if the majority of Chinese make 3 bucks a week how the heck are they buying TVs and cars at every turn, c'mon <<

instead of flapping your gums for which you know nothing about, why don't you go read about the principle of purchasing power parity and get back to me
