JIm, >Still, I have to believe those who buy the large cache Xeons are going to go for Intels jugular (wanting lower prices) when they see the prices of the Athlon MPs and 2 way Intel chips.

How does that work? Company A has products YY and ZZ. Company B has product YY, but not ZZ. So, customers can use lower prices for company B's YY as a wedge to get lower price from company A for ZZ? Does it work that way? Also, company B doesn't have product TT, which is Tualatin, which is required for Blade servers. Company B therefore has only one third of the cards to play. I think company B is still screwed (pardon my Italian).

Jim, <Now where is that Muskank with the large cache?>

AMD decided that no one really wants large-cache CPUs, which is why they cancelled Mustang.

Meanwhile, I see 900 MHz Pentium III Xeons w/ 2MB cache going for $3.5K and 800 MHz Itaniums w/ 4MB cache going for $4.5K. Obviously there are customers willing to pay those prices to get those large-cache CPUs, the same ones that AMD claims no one really wants.

Re: "With AMD recently getting back into Notebook chips and now 2 way servers, "

No kidding?

Which one(s) of Intel's customers are using AMD CPUs in 2-way servers?
