>>>i do find it kind of funny when business owners all of a sudden become concerned about the unemployment rate amongst folks in poverty, don't you? ;-)

and

funny how the elite like trickle down but don't like trickle up. seems more wages at the low end = more spending = more jobs. funny how the math only works when there is marginal money headed for for your own pocket ;-)<<<

ROTFLMAO....Agreed. I used the last above repeatedly when I was doing debate style media several years ago. It worked especially well when the opposition was a rep from a business group like chamber or commerce. For some reason they weren't prepped for this kind of venial, gritty argument and had no defense/response. Got one guy with it twice. He mumbled, fumbled and so forth on the first go around. The interviewer, who was a pretty decent guy, had mercy on him and just moved on to the next related issue...damn...it was a commercial station.

When we ran into each other in the waiting area of the studio for our second interview together he had that "Oh, shit...not again." look on his face. This time the interviewer sensed weakness and went for the guy's throat. It was a public station that time...yippee.

Afterwards he said he'd be ready for the third time. There never was a third time with him. They threw someone else into the ring who wasn't much better.

I don't doubt that at some point in the future SS will have to be means tested. It's Medicare that's the real problem IMO. Even the rich will scream it that program gets means tested.

A rewrtie of the Patient Self Determination Act of 1990 to give it some teeth and a frank national discussion re: end of life issues might help.
