"12 month delay compared starting when?"

End of the year. NVidia is saying 18-24 month delay to get their latest core into a chipset. This may be optimistic, reference Scumbria for the reasons.

" I have not really followed the software side, but my impression is that it is a subset of Win2K, which should make it possible for the hackers to get XBox software work on a full Win2K."

It probably wouldn't take all that much time to port software from Win2K to XBox, but it would require a re-write/compile cycle. At a minimum, the DLL's are divided differently, and that means at least some minor twiddling of the code. Again, a dumb decision, but...

Still 115 posts to catch up, but I still haven't seen anyone mention an obvious reason that nVidia can't make a gaming console: Microsoft probably made them sign a non-compete agreement. Having said that, an Athlon/Crush PC will play the same games as an Xbox but at 1280x1024 resolution, not TV resolution.

(Or does Xbox gave a high resolution monitor interface?)
