Hi Jay,

Japanese society, Japan has been unable to fully admit its defeat, and this is the cause of its present malaise.

hit the nail on the head. Their system is missing the feedback loop, one crucial elements in the feedback loop is honesty, they can't fix their problems until they can see/admit the atrocity they committed during WWII in asia.

The people who are in charge in Japan today had little or nothing to do with WWII or the atrocities thereof, and preceding it. No doubt some who were combatants are still around, but not the ones who planned the war. This may be a peculiarly American way of looking at it, but I'd say "get over it." The guys who need to accept blame are dead or senile and wearing diapers.

It only goes to show what happens when you let militarists and romantics run the government - by romantics I mean those who believe fantasies about how wonderful war is and how it is the destiny of your nation to conquer other nations because you are superior. Here in the US we are making those guys move to Idaho and Montana, where they can run around in the woods wearing camouflage, playing with guns, building bonfires, and having a lot of fun being boys together out in the middle of nowhere.;^)
