Dear D.Long: You are absolutely correct. Think about it, the logging industry is an INDUSTRY, does anyone seriously think they are not thinking of the future. the only problem I see is they sometimes get into a redwood kick (japan loves the stuff) and cut old forests and redwoods take forever to grow. On the otherhand, if you dont THIN THE FOREST OUT, NOTHING GROWS and if there is a fire EVERYTHING IS LOST. Best practice is to do selective logging and clearing of the underbrush. Allows sunlight in for saplings to grow and forest naturally replenishes itself. Remember the TERRIBLE fires we had in Yellowstone a few years ago, caused by FAILURE TO THIN IT OUT. JDN
