Hi RRanney,

I think (not certain) that SloNiacin has had some liver tox issues and that it was taken off the VA formulary.

Check it out before trying it - admittedly I get facts screwed up at times.

Nope, those OTC Niacin supplements can present severe toxicity/flushing issues.

KOSP spent a lot of time and money developing a version of niacin that reduced those problems.

In fact, the bad reputation of niacin has been a hurdle for KOSP to overcome. Many DRs just assume that all versions of niacin present serious patient compliance issues.

Fortunately, word is finally getting around. My father's Dr refused to consider Niaspan a few years back. But he changed his tune in the past year.
