Good Morning Teresa! Yesterday I went short ES at 1297.25 after the initial drop after it looked like it was hitting resistance & going sideways. Soon it dropped quickly to 1291-92 and bounced around. I had plenty of time to take 5 pts but did not, was stopped out at 1296.25 for a 1pt gain. Thats all the trading I did for the day.

I watched it go up 5 pts, & down 5 pts, up 4, down 4, up again to 1298, and then down to 1290. It was a very choppy day.

My question - do most ES traders try to play those 5 pt swings during a choppy day, or at least get a piece of them, or do the traders you know prefer to catch much longer swings and ride out the bumps? Is there any kind of sensible guideline?

With globex it is so easy to get in and out, I may have to adjust my conservative trigger finger and trade much more than I normally do with stocks.

I'm looking to ride those several day larger swings, but today sure did not work out.

A new ES trader looking for the balance...

Thanks

TTW

<<makes me wonder if it is the old "sell in May and go away...".>> - I think so, with a little twist...many traders are/were net short. So, if we apply the 'sell in May' logic, we get buying (short covering).
