Rich I grew up in Montreal which had a great mass transit system. Clean efficient and free of violence. In this country women get dragged of the bus and raped in broad day light. Bums get on the bus and harass people. The truth is we stay in our cars because unfortunately we are an uncivil nation. Awhile back my wife tried taking the train and then catching a bus to work. The weirdos and freaks that got on the bus were just to scary to put up with.

Dear rich4eagle: You cannot equate Europe with USA. We are very spread out here compared to European nations. Its just not possible to have a similar mass transit system. We can get you from one point to another but we cant get you to where you work, thats the problem. Anyhow, we do tax the shit out of gas, its used for our Highway fund and some of it does go to mass transit besides. But remember USA is SO MUCH BIGGER than any European country and our people have so many different cultures etc I dont think its practical. JDN
