A closed architecture is monopolistic for many components of the computer.

As for your preference of systems, it is not for me to say which one you should choose, I am just pointing out that the majority of the world has chosen the PCx86 architecture, and has most likely done so for the reasons I stated earlier.

On the PC front stability has always been something that once achieved, immediately requires an upgrade of components, OS, new software etc :-)

(I have been bragging that I have not had to reboot my Win2k system in over 6-9 months - until last week when a reboot was needed as it slowed to a crawl after it hung trying to run the windows update routine - still worked OK, no data lost but still a reboot was necessary)
