Some of the secret rearmament went on in other countries than the Soviet Union, e.g., a one submarine company relocated to the Netherlands, and some of it went on under other guises, e.g., civilian aircraft were designed to military specs. A lot of rearmament did go on in the Soviet Union after the Treaty of Rapallo. My impression is that until Hitler took power in 1933, most of what was done was planning, and that after he repudiated the Treaty of Versailles, then the real rearmament began immediately, and everyone was quite surprised at the speed in which it was accomplished.

There are some intriguing areas I'd like to know a bit more about.

The Allies were aware of the secret aspects of the Treaty of Rapallo - the public aspect of the Treaty was that the Weimar Republic recognized the Soviet Union as a sovereign state, the first major nation to do so. The French were not at all happy about the secret plans, but the English told them not to be paranoid, apparently. On the other hand, an army of 100,000 was not sufficient for self-defense, nor to put down the frequent internal civil unrest, e.g., communist uprisings, putsches. The Germans had to rely on the Freicorps, which had fought on behalf of the Czarist Russians against the Communists in Russia, and had not assimilated well back into German society, to put down Communist uprisings in Germany. Paramilitary organizations developed all over Germany - all the major political parties had their own paramilitary organizations, not just the Nazis.

So I'd like to know a bit more about the attitude of the Allied secret service towards this behavior.

I'd also like to know more about the involvement of the industrialists. I find it very intriguing that Walther Rathenau, the head of the German G.E. cartel (AEG), during the war was in charge of industrial support of the war effort. Rathenau is one of those characters who has become the focus of a lot of - how shall I say it, less than reliable sources - because he was a Jewish industrialist. But it appears to be a fact that he was in charge of cartelizing, or should I say further cartelizing, German industry, during WWI, and afterwards.

I find it very odd that he negotiated the Treaty of Rapallo. For which he was assassinated, apparently. I mean, he was assassinated, apparently because of right wing rage that he engineered German cooperation with the Soviets - which is odd, because the secret aspects of rearmament appear to have been the type of thing that would have pleased the right wing - except that the way things were being done were not the type of thing that the right wing in the US would approve of. He was a master of social planning. It is said that Lenin admired him, and tried to emulate his achievements in the Soviet Union.

The cartelizing and the secret plans for rearmament were going along quite well long before Hitler was anything but a joke. I mean, it was well underway by 1924, when Hitler was imprisoned for the Munich putsch. So the question in my mind is, who was the leader, and who were lead?

I guess you are aware that many of the men tried at Nuremberg were industrialists. So I suppose that a lot of this ground has been gone over quite a bit, but I also suppose that a lot of evidence was destroyed by people who wanted to cover their own asses at the end.

For a conspiranoiac, this guy is actually a hoot. He does a very good job of refuting many old conspiracies, but unfortunately he believes in a bunch of new ones.
