<Palomino (originally called Mustang minus the large 2nd level cache) was scheduled for 2nd half 2000 originally. >

A grandpa minus a wiener equals a grandma. In other words Mustang is not Palomino and Palomino is not Mustang.

There was a decision to switch gears and go after the notebook space several months after Mustang taped-out. From that point on, the Palomino slip was no more than a month. The decision to switch was in my view 100% brilliant. However, one could argue that AMD should have planned for mobile Palomino to be the first part from the start.

Andreas: Palomino (originally called Mustang minus the large 2nd level cache) was scheduled for 2nd half 2000 originally.

I find it highly unlikely that Palomino is nothing but a Mustang Light. Although Mustang would have incorporated PowerNow! (and probably some of the other, minor enhancements in the Palomino core), it never, most likely, included SSE or hardware prefetching.
