Americans are more concerned with principles, perhaps, and the concept of not abandoning friendly nations. I never for the life of me never knew what we were doing in South Korea or South Vietnam, or why we would risk thermonuclear war over Taiwan (life in America wouldn't miss a beat if Taiwan were to sink to the ocean floor). I think the Taiwanese should immediately capitulate so that we can stop being so buddy-buddy with them, and having unnecessary tension with the world's only other superpower. Did the Koreans, Vietnamese and Taiwanese have Congress in their "back pockets"? Or were we afraid of the clout of Korean, Vietnamese and Taiwanese Congressman? Can you enlighten me on this? Because I can't reckon what we got for our blood and tax dollars in either war, or from the current dangerous game of chicken over that speck of an island. By the way, U.S. support is absolutely the worst thing for Israel, since it has turned her into a vassal state. Many Israelis are coming to recognize this. Many countries do fine maintaining their independence regardless of what America thinks of them, and with no American aid. These countries range from the neutral Swiss to the medievel Taliban in Afghanistan, and every flavor in between. I strongly advocate cutting off all foreign aid to Israel (or Israeli rejection of all foreign aid) so that Israel is free to act without worrying about losing foreign aid dollars.
