>I would like to have seen a Palomino at 1.4 vs a Tualatin at 1.4.<

Even TBird at 1.4 GHz would have been more fair. Nevertheless, since the 1.4 GHz Tualatin was operated with an overclocked FSB, even this would not have been indicative of the performance difference between an actual 1.4 GHz Tualatin and a 1.4 GHz TBird.

>Also, I get tired of the same old Quake 3 benchmarks. Perhaps someone should make a universal gaming benchmark.<

This too is deceptive, since by running Q3 at two different resolutions the P4 scores two wins from what is essentially a single benchmark.

McJimbo - re: "Desktop Tualatin at high speeds may be retarded by Intels marketing of the P4 "

AthWiper4US will be RETARDED in notebooks by the Tualatin.

Similarly, the 2 and 4-way Tualatin Server versions will snuff out the AthWiper eMPty.

Funny..I never heard you claim to be tired of the benchmarks that an AThWiper wins.

Jim, <Perhaps someone should make a universal gaming benchmark.>

And if the Pentium 4 does well on that, you'll complain the creator of that benchmark is actually under Intel's payroll, yada yada.

By the way, if you haven't noticed, BAPCo's 3DMark and ZDNet's 3D Winstone were attempts to create the "all-encompassing 3D graphics benchmark." Given the controversial nature of benchmarking in general, what do you think it would take to come up with the benchmark to end all benchmarks?
