I landed on my back, sliding head first for quite a distance before I came to a stop. My leather jacket did it's job and I only had slight abrasions on my back. The jacket was ruined of course. More importantly though, my helmet did it's job. I didn't land on my head, but skidding along the pavement ground away the outer shell and a lot of the internal foam. The visual that I still get of what would have happened had I not been wearing a helmet is still disturbing to me.
