Grains, Soybeans Mixed; Corn Lower

Grains, Soybeans Mixed Under Pressure From Weather in the Midwest

CHICAGO (AP) -- Grain and soybean futures prices were mixed Wednesday in early activity on the Chicago Board of Trade, pressured by crop-beneficial conditions in the Midwest.

Soybeans retreated modestly after two consecutive days of hitting new three-month highs. The outlook for favorable weather in the soybean belt over the next few days weighed on the market. Corn prices also edged lower at the opening under pressure from the weather, before rebounding somewhat. A lack of fresh news left trading relatively quiet. Wheat was fractionally lower. Market-watchers said harvest pressures prompted some selling.

Wheat for July delivery fell 3/4 cent to $2.62 1/2 a bushel; July corn rose 1/4 cent to $1.97 1/2 a bushel; July oats fell 1 cent to $1.08 1/2 a bushel; July soybeans fell 1 1/4 cent to $4.72 1/2 a bushel. Beef futures advanced in early trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, while pork futures were mixed. August live cattle rose .18 cent to 73.50 cents a pound; August feeder cattle rose .20 cent to 91.55 cents a pound; July lean hogs rose .23 cent to 69.95 cents a pound; July frozen pork bellies fell .33 cent to 86.02 cents a pound.
