Fyo what are you average download rates?

@Home and ATT averages between 2.8Mbps and 5.4Mbps download. Just shy of T2 (~6.1Mbps) but still over 2 T1's (1.544Mbps per). And you are correct the bandwidth of where you going to is usually the 1st Issue.

dslreports.com has a link to some good speed test and a list of @home benchmarks.

I work allot with SONET Transport for HSD. Mostly OC48 (2.2Gbps) won't be long and I'll be upgrading to OC192(10Gbps)

M.

fyo, What kind of timeline do you see this level of bandwidth becoming available? Is it in the works? Already available, but just expensive? Honestly I haven't even thought about that amount of band.

I guess you're drooling over the possiblities.

>>WHEN everyone has multiple-Mbit/s (min. T2) connections (and the ISP's backbone can support it, which is far from the case now), streaming movies or TV shows in "serious" quality will be possible.

That will change what we use the internet for in a drastic way.... I'm looking forward to it... impatiently.<<

I see you like TV by way of the net. Have you tried www.dot.tv they have some good sites there. One example is britishweb.tv It takes awhile to go thru them all , but you might find something that you like. If I see something interesting in the future I'll post a link for you.

BTW, I haven't used SI for quite some time and I haven't been able to reply to some people because I can't find their post to me after I read it in the inbox( it disappears and I can't retrieve it. These messages used to stay there until I sent them to the trash but now they don't. Do you know of a way to set the preferences so that I can quickly get back to posts sent to me ? TIA stak
