So we should allow Iraqi missile delivery systems, but not rowboats?

flapjack, I will now demonstrate where the logic of your positions is severely flawed.

We have purchased aircraft carriers for our nations defense. However, aircraft carriers are vulnerable to submarine attack. Should we not purchase aircraft carriers because they don't solve the undersea threat?

No one that I've heard is pretending Star Wars is a panacea. In other words, just because we build a star wars defensive shield against a nuclear missile, doesn't mean other defensive measures won't be necessary. One doesn't discount the need for the other.

A better way to look at it is this. What defensive system will prevent a nuclear missile from impacting our nation and our allies. Will aircraft carriers accomplish it, will jet fighters accomplish it, will anything we've currently constructed accomplish it, besides MADD? And of course diplomacy?

The answer is no. Therefore, the question isn't one of "it's no panacea, so it's useless". The question is, do we want to move the world from Mutually Assured Destruction, to a more saner defensive alignment, now that the cold war is over?

It only takes one missile filled with a nuclear warhead to kill millions of people. Would you prevent the implementation of something which would save those millions of lives in the event some nutcase fires a missile at one of our cities?
