Bill retired after winning two back to back NCAA championships at San Fran, an Olympic gold medal, and 11 NBA championships in 13 years, with 5 league MVP's. No one will ever do anything like that again

Kareem retired after winning THREE NCAA Championships (and was the MVP in each of those years), 6 NBA Championships at Milwaukee and L.A., 6 league MVP's, and was the all-time leading scorer in the NBA. I would say that that record is comparable to Russell's (and exceeds Wilt and, so far, Shaq).

I wouldn't count on that. Jordan would have easily accomplished that had he had a better support staff early on. If Kobe & Shaq stay together in L.A., and add another great defender, I could see 11 of 13 championships and 10 MVP's between them. Not saying that it will happen, but I wouldn't rule it out.

<< This series doesn't support the contention of one of our younger mudges that Iverson is one of the three top scorers of the last 20 years. >>

Not for nothing, doc, but he is averaging 35+ points a game while severely injured, constantly held and double-teamed by guys 1 foot bigger and 50% heavier than him. Break Shaq's ass and put a couple of 450-pound 8-footers on him, and he'll have problems too.

and remember he IS the leading playoff scorer, and was the leagues leading scorer this year. His playoff average IS above his seasons average and so is his average against the Lakers.

Your definition of "scorer" and mine must be different.
I don't look just at absolute total, I look at scoring percentage. You neglect to mention he is shooting < 40% in this series, which is unacceptable. That percent of misses represents a much higher number of "missed opportunities", and subsequent defensive rebounds in which the ball reverts to the Lakers. I don't think that's good basketball.
