NT is Canada's national shrine. I think the Canadian government would probably bail it out should that become necessary - much like the way US bailed out Chrysler years/decades ago.

Analyst on CNN states they expect 4th Q earnings to be 7% above last year. But they do not expect a positive recovery until then. Expects the worst has just happened, we go through a period of downsizing consolidation then a big spurt into next year as non-existent inventories mean shortages of goods, computer systems need to be upgraded and ultra low interest rates make borrowing easier. Expects companies to re-fi debts cheaply, expects energy prices to gradually go down and - what does all this mean? That somewhere around here is the best buying opportunity since Jan. 3rd or the beginning of April. Of course nothing's going to go in a straight line, but longer term you have to be optimistic from these teensy prices.

The NT loss however was colossal. Makes LU look like it's in good shape. I remember a year ago in Europe watching the NT head of ops being interviewed predicting a near monopoly over Europe's high-speed line systems. They were getting one big contract after another. They must have really believed their own hype because they totally overextended themselves and were completely unprepared for the sudden slowdown.

Ones I like now are NOK, PALM, ERICY and EMC based on their sharp falls, as well as oil stocks which have dropped a bit. Retailers look fully valued, as do drugs. I'd also pick a spot and go long any of the indexes. Eithre that or I'd take a vacation from the market for awhile.

We needed this weekend to get over shellshock. I'd guess some major bargain-hunting is going to come in early this coming week. Watch for it.
