None of what Salomon said is a reason to buy RSTN. These macro economic rationalizations are never sufficient to justify taking a position. A rising tide will do what it will. What can anyone do? CSCO should be a major beneficiary of the "macro" forces which will also benefit RSTN. Great. CSCO should garner far more of the market. So what?

My reason for interest in RSTN is G-MPLS and flexibility to interoperate at best speed in the burgeoning GigE VPN and ancillary spaces. There's also some other potential opportunities. G MPLS is more than what it appears. The key is in this excerpt from the Avici partnership:

replacement of legacy leased lines and frame relay services with Internet VPNs to connect enterprises on a national or worldwide basis.

"Core / Metro MPLS interoperability is unquestionably needed to make end-to-end IP VPNs a viable replacement for frame relay or ATM-based services," said David Dunphy, senior analyst at Current Analysis.
