LRCX was my biggest and most profitable holding in 2000, but I sold all @ $47 and $53.

LRCX is a leader in ETCH, that is it. AMAT and NVLS have proved their ability to expand their product lines and achieve leadership positions. AMAT is the best at this, by far.

In general, I don't want to own, long term, any major competitor of AMAT. I make an exception for NVLS because of its tremendous track record the past 10 years. LRCX has changed management during that time (LAM = Left Applied Materials) for the better, but I will not buy LRCX until another product achieves a leadership position.
