<All that fiber has to be lit with the type of equipment that Ciena manufactures. And it will be when the demand and dollars are there.>
that is the big question, when? that comes to my mind after reading the front page NY Times article which today compared the optic fiber-laying to the building of the railroads in the 1870s with no last mile in both cases to the passengers..
will Ciena's main customers decline to buy now? Why do they need to buy Ciena's products anytime soon, things being as bad as they are? What if they just hunker down??
I know these questions are naive and at this late hour I can't think of who the main customers are.

But if internet usage and demand is dropping (as NT reported), then why light it? Eventually, I believe we'll need much more than we have now; but it's short term, this quarter and next that I'm concerned about. What really bugs me about this whole situation is that even though I have cable, it still is too slow. This entire process of high speed, heavy content delivery is going to take way too long. Meanwhile, the backbone waits to be lit.
