"As you may or may not know, the government of Canada is a five-year dictatorship. "

This is a patently absurd statement. Accordingly, nothing else in the post is worthy of consideration.

Well...thats it you've convinced me. I'm disconnecting the internet, phone, and ISP, withdrawing all my money from financial institutions in greenbacks, heading to Army surplus to load up the truck with survival gear gear and heading for the hills to await the great battle with the big brother dictatorship in Ottawa...LOL LOL LOL

I'm really starting to think some people spend WAY too much time surfing the net...

OT

there is nothing to stop it from making an attempt to save the economy of Central Canada, along with the pension funds of the country by nationalizing JDSU and/or Nortel for the sake of the government's stated mission, while bailing out all the bag-holders

You are just kidding here right ?

Quite apart from consideration of diabolical thoughts and five year dictatorships, it is possible to tease something of a likely scenario out of the debate. The Canadian government received yesterday a report from a task force on providing high speed access to communities across Canada. The tab looks like C$4 billion. The government balked, but did indicate that $C1.5 billion could be available from the Federal and provincial governments. The rest would have to come from the "private sector", although you can bet they will find some way to sting the municipalities too.
Stopping short of nationalization, there are many scenarios which could see NT products, services, consulting etc. being a shoo-in for this "National" effort.
