Humanae Vitae expressly disavows pretensions to being an infallible pronouncement, although it relies on the teaching authority of the papacy. Therefore, the issue continued to be discussable. Also, it is going too far to speak of "every sperm (being) sacred", since the Rhythm, then Billings, methods of birth control have long been sanctioned, using natural ovulation and fertility calculations to limit pregnancy. That said, I do not agree with the Church's position on contraception.
