i have had broadband connection in US for at least 3 or 4 yrs.

Then you're one of the lucky few.

Few people have fast Internet connections, and prices are rising for those who do. Computer users with common dial-up Internet connections find their Web browsers stalled, and people trying to make regular phone calls complain increasingly of busy signals....

Today, only about 10 percent of American homes have high- speed access to the Internet, through conventional cable networks and digital subscriber lines.

For an example, I attempted to sign up for DSL with Verizon; and after over 3 months of pulling teeth and screwups on their part (a casual observer might conclude that either this company is pathologically lying or technologically incapable of installing/providing this service) we gave up.

At the same time, we had a second child and we decided that my wife would stay at home for a couple of years. That, combined with a stagnant economy, led us to reevaluate ALL of our expenses... In the end we went the exact opposite route - I now pay ATT $4.95/month (as opposed to $50) and get crappy service... But I am alot happier paying $5 month than $50/month for crappy service.

I would still love to have broadband into my home and would use it for several things - trading, music downloads, etc. The price and the service need to be right, though. And why pay for something when in general I can get my fill free at work???
