There is a term which evades me for the religious murder of young children. The concept is based on the belief that a child that dies before reaching the age of accountability is assured a place in Heaven. Very morbid solution to say the least.

I don’t think this woman had that sort of thing in mind. She appears to have long suffered from severe depression. Then her father died and she had a child. These two things apparently caused her to sink to bottom. She was on meds, but they didn’t help her much. Tragic. Very tragic.

Children are wonderful, but I can attest to the fact that at certain times they can be stressful. Once you get a couple of older children, it is really smooth sailing if you’ve done the job right. But this poor lady had five children all under the age of seven. To raise that many kids, it takes a mom who knows she is an adult and that her children are children. This woman is quite fragile and it’s a pity, because I think she probably would have done just fine in a culture wherein societal support automatically extended to families.

Today, we are much too isolated from one another—too friggin’ “diverse.”
