Motley Fool shorting AFFX. We must be close to a near term bottom if they are going short. Their last short was when they shorted Donald Trumps company and they did not work out all the well. This was not this particular portoflio manager though or portfolio. ********************************* Shorting Affymetrix Affymetrix's GeneChip DNA arrays are the top of the line, but their customer universe is as large as it may ever be, and increasing competition and cheaper alternatives will eat into margins. Any efforts to expand further into genomics is too little, too late. With no indication of any profitable consumer business in the near future, this company exemplifies our "closed-business situation" criterion for shorting. We'll short $25,000 of the company's stock within the next five business days. Tom Jacobs (TMF Tom9) has never shorted a stock, but wishes he did before the Nasdaq fell.
