Susie, it seems we cannot avoid problems altogether, so must hang in there. I just don't know who is a problem free provider - or if there is one. I would be glad to pay more for guaranteed performance. You might want to get an additional e-mail account at Yahoo for backup. It eliminates the download step because it's web based.

I'd say get cable if you want it for speed, but don't expect trouble free performance from what I hear.

Susie,

I use @home cable service on one of my PC's, and have been extremely happy with the reliability, speed and the tech support. The two times I had problems, I was able to reach a helpful and polite human on the phone within minutes, and was talked through the proper fix.

As for email, I have used Yahoo as my home page for a few years now, and I use their email as my main address. Yahoo gives you the ability to block mail from any sender, and also screens junk mail to be saved in a "bulk mail" folder. After using this address for a couple of years, and giving out as a registration email on several occasions, I am happy to report that I receive almost no spam (maybe 1 a month). If I do receive spam, I simply block that address and never hear from them again.

Good luck,

Quahog

You're scaring me about cable now! I don't want any new problems or I will get run right off this board!!!

I know you're just kidding but mr.mark would never allow that to happen anyway. Most of the people you run into here enjoy helping fellow dummies fix these machines. It's a learning process for both the person with the problem and the helpers. Unfortunately these machine don't like some of the things we try to force them to do and I think sometimes my machine just plain doesn't like me.

Get the cable, you won't regret it. I use roadrunner and they have some outages and email glitches every now and then but not as often as I have problems with my MSN account at work. Ditching them for DSL in a couple of weeks. Getting new computers to boot...hehehe.
