John it would seem to me at this stage of the game that a smart E&P might begin to shift the drill focus to oil. Then again maybe there isn't that much oil to drill for. Least ways in the US let's say.

Best

I 'll bet we will see a move from NG to Oil drilling later this summer. Of course, for some wells, all they need to do is complete a different zone ....

I did a chart of BHI US Total this morning with a break down between oil, gas, GOM & non GOM. It gives a good visual indication of activity and offers comparison to 1997.

I dont know how much more profitable NG is than oil to drill right now. Seems the E&P companies at the drill bit know depletion rates , etc. Storage keeps going up and production at least through last QTR is weak.

If everyone thinks NG is going to $2.5 why are they still drilling mostly for NG?

Perhaps the comment that shallow water GOM has inadequate NG opportunities is true.

Excardog I am not so confidant in E&P's as I believe the forward earnings comparisons will not be enticing.
