One of my favorite discussions is "does the death penalty deter crime?" Just today a radio talk guy was saying that he spent 2 days locked in a cell area of death row inmates. He talked to all of them and asked if the death penalty was a deterrence. They all said NO. At this point and when he walked out of the prison he failed to ask the correct question and make the obvious observation. It worked on HIM and most every one else in society. That it fails to work on some (and they are truly few as a percentage) is evidence that they are fundamentally different and dangerous.

Then of course the conversation drifted off into the never-never land of the morality of the death penalty rather than the more salient point of justice.
