In Illinois our Governor Ryan was elected as a Republican and then came up with a bunch of liberal programs. Sinking fast he finally quit visually inspecting himself for colon problems and came up with a decent plan. Illinois has more coal energy reserves in coal than Saudi Arabia and Kuwait combined have in oil. Now the state will be promoting coal plants. Build more and convert those that had been converted to oil back to coal.

The electric co-op I belong to did something like that. We bought a coal field and are building a generator on the field. It will cut our costs to 6 cents per as vs 11.3 cents per from nuke generating.

Calif energy use was up 4% last year and is now down 15%.
Admittedly, there was a need for a little more but don't you see the energy companies with the power to do so just turned if off. Look into the El Paso Gas Company as well. And Enron. They may have to give the money back soon. The only reason they did it was both to help their GOP pals and to loot while the getting was good because Cheney was giving them permission. Cheney being in charge of our so-called new energy policy which is basically drilll and build plants everywhere but my backyard.
