As with most "analysis" performed by analysts, it is one's perspective. The timing of the Merrill downgrade is absolutely pathetic. The timing of this article, five days after the "news" of the downgrade is pathetic journalism at its worst.

It's hard, imo, to debate Merrill's metrics without seeing their report. My real question has to do with whether or not the price competition is a longer term trend, or much shorter as it relates to the current macroeconomic picture and/or the NAS initiatives of other firms.

Why do you think they're so off?

Merrill wants to pick up more shares. And the general investing public doesn't know any better.
It's pretty obvious to me that Merrill saw the DAFS release last week. They've put two and two together...especially with Christensen. The want more shares.
