Rudedog, concur with your notes from the press conf. Some other notes I took, all from Capellas except the one from Barrett:

1. Mentioned that there would also be 2 more speedbump improvements to the NSK products before they go to Itanium.

2. Compaq and Intel would be looking at next generation parallel computing together.

3. First Itanium server release from Compaq in Q3.

4. Continuing development of 32 way McKinley based server.

5. 64 bit Windows a high priority.

6. Compaq has solicited opinions from many large customers on this move with Intel and got "unbelievably strong support."

One significant Barrett comment was that this all makes for no impact on silicon, but Intel gets terrific compiler technology experience from Compaq.

Yep...

"This is the end.... the end my friends"

But it is a new beginning. I got me some new
palsee-wowsees in Tench and Paul. I get to tear into
the AMD whiners I guess and the Sun whiners. Sure wish
Andrew Harrison hung out here so Paul could spend some
time with him :O
