Nortel slashes 330 N.Irelandjobs ....30,000 worldwide this year- WSJ LONDON, June 25 (Reuters) - Canadian telecommunications firm Nortel Networks Corp. <NT.TO><NT.N> will slash 330 jobs at a factory in Northern Ireland as part of its plans to cut 10,000 from its global workforce, the Wall Street Journal Europe reported on Monday. No one at the plant at Monkstown in the British province was immediately available for comment. The newspaper said on its website that it was the fourth round of cuts this year at the factory, which it said was Nortel's largest optical systems house in Europe. The cuts brought the staff down to 1,600 from 2,400 at the start of this year, it said. The world's largest supplier of telecommunications equipment said late last week it would cut 10,000 jobs and predicted a massive $19.2 billion second-quarter loss. These latest cuts mean the company will have laid off 30,000 staff this year, or a third of its total workforce. Nortel said these and other cost-cutting measures should save the compnay about $3.5 billion annually.
