My Gut says +/- 2 days from earnings Mani.

But it's really your call.

Re: "Still looking for a good time to cover my shorts, any suggestions?"

I'd wait until the day after AMD reports their Q2 2001 "earnings" - or maybe 2 days after - take your pick.

RE:"Still looking for a good time to cover my shorts, any suggestions?

Anyone? What is the chart saying?"

On the chart I see 3 exits points:

1- low band of the last 6 mounts up trend was somewhere below $24. You didn't take it last week tho.

2-Then, the last support at $19 made 2 mounts ago would be the next target.

3-Finaly, $14 the 52wk low.

My bet would have been #1 but the bet is yours.

Congrate anyway, up to here.

Gottfried

Mani:

Well Mani, the last major pattern was a pennant from which a significant move often occurs upon breakout. The move can be down or up...In this case, and certainly contrary to my expectation, it was down to the current level in the $24 to $26 range where consolidation appears now to be occurring...

The overiding AMD pattern at the moment is a channel with bottom around $24 and top around $36...My guess is that once consolidation in the current range runs its course, AMD'll mount another challenge at the near term high around $34 and near the upper boundary of the channel. Consequently, since you asked, I'd cover my AMD shorts anywhere between $24 and $26...As well oscillator indicators suggest that AMD is currently oversold...

(As well, Paul's q2 estimate of $10 million in AMD profit is likely to be as much as a 1000% off the mark...Might be closer to INTC's though!!!)

Hi, Mani, this is a good time to cover. The stock has pulled back to its 200 day MA. This is the first pullback to it since it broke through 200ma on April 18. The fact that the market ignored the potentially bad CPQ news, and that AMD has stopped underperforming Intel, are also good signs.

<Still looking for a good time to cover my shorts, any suggestions?>

Since you have enough stomach not to cover at $35, you might hold on till under $20.

800MHz Durons selling for $34 is not a good sign. Jerry may complain about "excessive grey market activity" this coming CC.

Re: Still looking for a good time to cover my shorts, any suggestions?

I'd go with either last Wednesday or last Thursday.

With PIII 1.4GHZ suddenly added to next year's Intel roadmap, something is clearly wrong with the P4 Foster ramp.

Meanwhile, Dell's new single processor Itanium workstation runs at 800MHZ and can get by with only an 800 watt power supply.
dell.com

All sorts of air cooled Athlons running at 1.5GHZ and above are benchmarking better than Liquid Nitrogen cooled P4s running at 2.6GHZ, and a Liquid Nitrogen cooled Athlon running at 2.3GHZ is faster than anything else, period.
www16.big.or.jp

Pricewatch listings for dual processor Athlon motherboards are now into 2 pages, and prices have gotten below $400.

AMD isn't going to be making a ton of money this quarter, but they shouldn't do too badly. And there are signs that guidance will be OK, too. AMD seems to be moving fairly quickly to take back a moderate amount of mobile market share, and given the frantic scrambling we're seeing from Intel, AMD has been selling some servers, too.

Regards,

Dan
