I look at it as just a second indicator that someone else thinks the price of gold could go up near term:

First there was CSFB -- 4% stake in NEM

Now there is ABX -- trying to get some protection with the purchase of HM

I think it is bullish ... the players to whom it is critical are starting to hedge their bearish positions. Not possible for some of them to unwind.

but as you say not based on the things that the analysts are looking at.

CBs will not dishoard everything ... there will come a point when all that "above ground supply" is irrelevant because they won't be selling or leasing it any more.

There won't be any point to doing so ...
