Not that this means a lot.. but If I understand, the analysts I saw today said this was a hurt for Sun.. and rated AMD a neutral over this.

Nobody's calling this favorable for AMD, but Compaq's got two big code bases they got to port to Itanic now, and it's not real clear that the customer base has much faith in them . theinquirer.net . Seamless transition? Yeah, right, everything about the Itanic operation has been seamless, right from the start. Rumor has it the emperor's new clothes were seamless too.

Compaq's got problems, and Intel took advantage of it. It's not at all clear that Compaq has really done anything about its problems, though.

<< Given that, even Osha, Peck and Scoval think this can only help Intel, I am surprised to see so many of you on this thread having a hard time admitting (or understanding) that this would hurt AMD (what must help Intel must AMD, right ?). >>

Sure it could hurt AMD, but people are blowing this way out of proportion IMO. So as it looks right now, AMD may not crack the enterprise sector with Compaq 2-3 years from now.

Did anyone expect this? Did you really expect AMD to start getting enterprise wins in 2 years? They haven't even broken into the small server market, or commercial workstation market, but people on this thread expected them to be cracking the enterprise market in 2 years. Perhaps my expectations were just way too low.
