I agree with you in general here, without the time to split hairs today. My interest in Jaynes' book is because he can support the change from bicameral thought to self awareness through the examples of history, art, religion, agricultural practices, etc. That why to me, its so compelling. No doubt, there are large unplugged holes in this theory, even Jaynes admits some of them, which I think just enhances his credibility.
The vestiges of a bicameral past are with us today, as you so aptly cited.
